Introduction

Experience the game that launched one of the most celebrated sagas in entertainment with Halo: Combat Evolved. Launched in 2001 alongside the original Xbox console, it was soon one of the most influential titles of the decade. With a grotesque narrative, fast-paced action and a realistic environment, Halo established a series that would be legendary in video game history.

Storyline

The game is set in the 26th century, where humans are fighting against a theocratic alliance of aliens known as the Covenant. The player takes the role of Master Chief.

The game starts as players are aboard the spaceship Pillar of Autumn, which crash lands on a weird-looking ring-shaped world called Halo. As the game progresses, players discover the secrets of this ancient structure, fight hostile alien forces and experience a downright scary and dangerous entity known as the Flood — a parasitic life form.

Gameplay

“Halo: Combat Evolved” was a groundbreaking, technologically marvelous first-person-shooter that established new patterns for other shooters to follow:

Two-Weapon System — Players may only wield two weapons out of a lift of weapons available, forcing them to make strategic decisions.

Regenerating Shield System: Master Chief’s shields regenerate over time, a system that would have influence unimaginable on the coming years of gameplay.

Well-Rounded Combat: The game blends vehicle sections, on-foot shooting, and traditional AI-based enemy solider fights.

Multiplayer

The game’s local multiplayer began a cultural movement of sorts, as friends connected their Xboxes for epic LAN throwdowns. It featured:

Classic multiplayer maps

Capture the Flag, Slayer, Oddball, and more; Enjoy over 100 multiplayer maps and access new maps created by the Halo community createTime\ORM) OR Real;amp;gt;It’s hard to see the difference between 720p and 1080p time

Balanced team gameplay

(And there was, of course, no online play in the original, but it set the stage for the epic Xbox Live affair of Halo 2.)

Graphics and Audio

About at that time period, Halo: Combat Evolved was looking pretty damn good with their lush greenery, piercing ray lights and atmosphere lighting. The game also boasted a stirring soundtrack, a blend of orchestral and choral music that helped give the story its cinematic gloss.

Legacy

Gave Birth to the Halo Franchise: Led to countless sequels, spin-offs, novels, and even a TV series.

Console FPS: Disproved that “you can’t have a good FPS game on console”.

Why You Should Play It

Twenty years on, and it’s still a title science-fiction shooter story-action crossovers fans will want to play. The generation-less gameplay, vibrant characters and the atmospheric world that it dropped us into is classic gaming at its best.
